A well known fact is that debate class is very torturous. Never sign up for debate class if you are not ready for an extremely high work load and ready to get judged a lot. 

Debate class is hard, and its a lot of work to be done and per my experience, is a pain in the rear to get done on time and make a decent grade all on top of 7 other classes that must be upheld. 

Some people may find debate class fun and engaging, but it is hard, long grueling work. It is not fun in the slightest because you argue, but in a boring format and the topics are strange and difficult to write about. Debate topics are rarely fun to debate about and is mostly political crap that nobody cares about. 

Debate coaches are cool people, but they run a terribly boring activity that isn't fun. 

The only form of speech giving in debate class that might be fun is impromptu speaking because the topics are strange and you have no prep time so speeches are improvised. 

Debate class is very hard because you need to think critically and extremely fast. It is heavily involved in writing and research. 

If a you are not a good writer or don't like writing or just simply think its boring, debate class should not be in your radar. 99% of the class is writing and it is simply not fun to write that many things about boring topics and the formats used for writing are confusing and strange, and are not for the weak minded. 

The research portion of the class is extremely difficult because you need to research boring topics and find a TON of evidence on said boring topics. It takes a very long time to find evidence and it is also very tedious to put the evidence and writing together in an acceptable format and a usable debate case. 

If you don't like being judged, debate class is not for you because you will be judged when you debate and the debates get pretty heated as some students are very passionate about the boring stuff you must learn about. 

Per my experience I would not recommend debate class unless you are very smart and willing to do a ton of work. Also, you must be good at confusing formats and topics and debate forms. I struggle in debate class with the debate styles and formats as it is quite difficult to debate and be good at it. Debate is a challenging class and it is not for the weak. It is tough and requires a lot of skill and patience.
